Latin American Studies Centers

 

This section of Panoramas is sanctioned and sponsored by the LASA section of Directors of Latin American Centers. It is dedicated to discussions about the field of Latin American Studies and the role of Latin American Studies Centers.

The following four topics were the subject of discussion among a group of Center directors at Stanford (Nov 2-3, 2015), hosted by Rodofo Dirzo. .

  1. The state of Latin American Studies Centers in the US; historical origins, evolution over the last fifty years, and our futures.
  2. The relationship between Latin American studies and ethnic studies.
  3. The relationship of Latin American studies to global studies.
  4. The relevance and importance of Latin American studies to the contemporary and future.
  5. General topics.
